Jay padded into camp and dropped his mouse on the fresh-kill pile. The tom paused to stretch, gazing around the empty clearing. A year ago it would never have been deserted like this, he thought. Flamestar said ther were so many cats, they were everywhere... He went to the apprentice den and laid outside in a patch of sunlight.
A firey orange she-cat entered the camp. Her orange orbs glanced around quickly. Seeing Jay, she padded towards him. "Jay," Flamestar stood before him.
The black and white cat sat up, ears pricked. "Yes Flamestar?"
"It is time to start your training," the leader said. "Since the Clan is so small, I won't go to the Highrock." she cleared her throat. "Jay, do you swear to study and go by the warrior code?"
"I do," Jay nodded.
"From this point until your training ends, you will be known as Stormpaw. I will be your mentor," the leader and apprentice touched noses. "Let us begin your training."
Excitement ran through the young tom as he followed his mentor back into the trees.

Flamestar stood in the center of the training hollow, tail flicking from side to side. "Attack," she ordered the young tom.
Stormpaw hesitated before dropping into a crouch. He crept forward until he was close enough to leap. He sprang forward.
Flamestar ducked then forced herself upward, knocking into Stormpaw. "You make the same mistakes Firestar made," she told the winded apprentice. "You let your eyes deceive you. Try again."
Stormpaw slowed his breathing and crouched again. Eyes focused on his leader's, he leapt again.
The Thunder Clan leader leaned back onto her hind legs, batting Jay away with her forepaws. "Try harder!" she hissed. "Just because I am your leader, it doesn't mean you should be easy with me!"
Stormpaw's ears flicked back. He dropped into a crouch and began to circle her. Suddenly, he leapt at her from the side. He pushed the she-cat to the ground.
Flamestar got up quickly. "That's better," she purred. "Now go make one last hunt. It's almost sun-down."
Stormpaw nodded and hurried off into the bushes.

Flamestar looked at her, sadness in her eyes. "I hope you find your place," she touched noses with Cloudpaw. "Whether its in the forest or out somewhere else, I do not care. I just want you to find happiness."

She licked Firestar's ears "Ill try" She said softly and left.
